Washi Egg Ornaments
Washi Eggs are hand covered with "Washi Papers" selected and imported by American artist Jan McGregor during her travels throughout Japan. The paper is cut one hundred and twenty times in order to fully wrap each paper-mache’ egg form without distorting the paper patterns. Each egg is then hand dipped in clear glaze, which hardens to create an extremely durable ornament. The eggs have the same weight as an eggshell although they are not fragile. Each ornament is a unique handcrafted work of art.
